Helping the Budtender Help Consumers

Here is an industry milestone - “budtender” is officially listed in the Merriam Webster dictionary - “a person who serves customers at an establishment where cannabis products are sold (such as a medical or recreational marijuana dispensary).” Actually, the term was listed in the dictionary as far back as March, 2018, but more and more people are learning of this professional position as more legal cannabis dispensaries open up.

Given the nascent nature of the cannabis industry, the budtender holds a commanding and important role. They are the frontline to cannabis consumers. Most cannabis consumers know little about the cannabis they purchase or intend to buy. Thus, they are likely to rely on the budtender for advice and guidance regarding their cannabis purchase and consumption.

According to Weedmaps, the role typically includes:

  • Acting as the face of the dispensary, greeting customers

  • Facilitating the sale

  • Educating customers about a variety of cannabis products, including flower, edibles, and concentrates

  • Staying abreast of new products, strains, changes in laws, and industry trends in order to provide the highest level of service to customers

  • Weighing and packaging products as needed

  • Providing recommendations on cannabis products based on customer requests

  • Maintaining medical cannabis patient information and proper records (if at a medical dispensary)

  • Advising customers on proper safety measures to follow when consuming cannabis

  • Verifying proper identification and paperwork from customers

  • Assisting in various dispensary operations, including operating the cash register and maintaining hygienic conditions

This is quite a laundry list of responsibilities. How can we expect one person to be such an encyclopedia of information on all the products in one store yet alone manage all the other areas of their responsibilities?

This is an area where Lucid Green’s LucidID, the intelligent UPC (universal product code) of cannabis, provides strong and supportive assistance. In order to deliver accurate and helpful information, all a budtender needs to do is scan a LucidID found on a cannabis package. Same as consumers can do, but this “cheat-sheet” gives the budtender and the dispensary confidence they are delivering the right information about each product that is sold in their store.

Delivering top quality personal service should be the hallmark of valued cannabis dispensaries. This is not only important for cannabis dispensaries, but equally important to cannabis brands. If you represent a cannabis brand, how do you know that the person that is ultimately selling your product is delivering accurate and compelling information to your consumers. LucidIDs solve this problem as it is the cannabis brand that determines the appropriate and correct information that is delivered via a scan of a LucidID. The one exception to this is that LucidIDs also yield the independent lab test results. Thus a budtender and their customer know that the product is safe and get a detailed report of each ingredient in the cannabis product.

Lucid Green is committed to trust and transparency in cannabis and one way we deliver this responsibility is providing relevant and important information to budtenders and consumers via LucidIDs.
